Low Energy Light Bulbs

These are the well known modern light bulbs that are replacing the old tungsten filament lamps.  Apart from using less electricity and therefore cutting your bill, these bulbs last a lot longer too.  They have a normal lifespan of several years.

Computer 'PowerDowns'

A 'PowerDown' is a multi-socket electrical mains adaptor. However, they possess some smart technology that will automatically switch off any equipment such as printers, speakers, etc, that is linked to your computer when you shut down. This is a useful way to cut the electricity wasted by appliances left on 'standby', which can add up to quite a lot of money over a year or more. The 'PowerDown' will also protect computer equipment from damage by voltage spikes and power surges.

Computer PowerDowns are only suitable for use with ordinary desktop computers. Versions for use with laptops are not yet available, but they will be in the near future.

TV 'PowerDowns'

A TV PowerDown is similar to the computer version, but can also be used to leave 'on' certain items such as recorders that may need to be left running.  It also can be 'tuned' to the TV remote control, allowing you to operate it with the press of a button.

The PowerDowns have been supplied by E.ON as part of their Carbon Emissions Reduction Target.
